Studio & Production

Our studio, based in Kings Cross, London, is equipped with the latest design and print technology for tableware decoration. We work with clients to produce medium-scale, bespoke projects, which involve the development of tableware collections, unique works & editions, produced through the language of digital ceramic printing. This could include developing a fired colour palette, the fitting of images to forms, effective reprographic translation of images, prototyping, full print production of collections and the application of print with firing. Apart from developing our own signature ranges for retail, we are currently working with a wide variety of clients including, chefs & restaurants, individual designers and artists, ceramic manufacturers and luxury brands.

Our use of digital print technology liberates ceramic decoration from the technical limitations of analogue print methods and extends the aesthetic possibilities for surface design to include qualities such as continuous tone imagery. Designs can be developed exploiting more of the visual language of CAD, without the need to make the disruptive interpretations into half-tone necessary for conventional printing methods. Using our printmaking experience, we have developed approaches for building up layers of toner to create rich saturated colours, which can be used in combination with the inherent sophistication of toner printing, and overcome weaknesses often associated with digital ceramic printing. Whilst toner is a premium quality and costly ceramic pigment, this expense is offset by the reduction of investment necessary with conventional screenprinting methods. Our specialist digital ceramic print studio is equipped with current SRA3 laser printers and toner colour sets, developed in the laboratories of MZ Toner Technologies in Germany.
